Hey there. After this quarter, I'll be done with all of my lower division math classes, so in the Fall I'll need to start my venture into the upper division world (applied math major btw). I was thinking of starting with Math 115A, but are there any other suggestions? Thanks

after discrete math and linear algebra i think its usual to take real analysis.

take 115A after 33A, or take 110A after 61. The material kinda overlaps.
115A and 131A are the two most important upper divs cuz those are the classes where you learn how to write rigorous proofs. But I guess for applied math you can take the differential equations(134 135 I think) after 33B.

The idea is that 115A should be your first upper div class. That’s why you have the extra hour with the TA each week. I took 170A before that, which was ok because there’s wasn’t much in the way of proofs. I don’t remember having to prove much in 180 either, so it’s a reasonable choice for your first class.

It’s also probably ok if you take another class or two concurrent with 115A.

Thanks for the tips, I’ll go with 115A, but I’m gonna take two GEs with it since Marching band takes a lot of time (and the 2 units puts me at 17 anyway).

ThisCouldBeHeavn: I plan on minoring in Statistics to go along with the degree. I’m afraid that grad schools may look down at Stats 100A over 170 because it might be “easier”, do you know if I can take the 170 courses and still get credit for the stats minor?
