<pre><code> Some things are better left unsaid. Every thought, belief, or remark can have a virulent effect on people who lack fortitude. This leads to great emotional instability in a community, which then leads to greater emotional instability in the world as a whole. As shown in literature and history; one tiny negative remark can lead to a catastrophe.
The effect of the Zimmerman Telegram is an example of how some words should be kept private. Zimmerman's attempt to make a pact with Mexico in order to quell the American relationship with the Ally nations did not work out as planned. The telegram was in fact intercepted by U.S. intelligence; and was one of the reasons that the United States propelled themselves into World War One. If Zimmerman had not sent the telegram, Germany would have not have had the disadvantage of the United States joining the Ally powers.
In F. Scott Fitzgerald's novel, The Great Gatsby protagonist Jay Gatsby's only route of gaining Daisy Buchanan's love was if he hid some of the shady aspects of his private life. Daisy, flawed by her love for money; would not care whichever way Gatsby accumulated his welath. If Gatsby had not gained the money in his surreptitious ways; he would have never been able to lure Daisy and rekindle their past relationship.
Privacy is significant, especially if it conceals devastating truths. Zimmerman's devoid privacy is testament to the reason why we should not discuss certain things. If Gatsby did no conceal his past from everyone; he would have been accused to be a fraud and never be able to attain Daisy's love.
