I posted here last summer when I was a new transfer student to VCU and you guys were very helpful - I'm really happy where I am, have a great group of friends, and am doing well, so cheers to that!

My best friend is trying to do the same thing I did - go to Northern Virginia Community College for a year, and then transfer to VCU this fall. She just finished her second semester. Her first semester was fantastic - she got a 3.8. Second semester less so. She took the sequels to a lot of the classes she took first semester and did not do as well. 3.0 with two Cs.

She applied to VCU with her first semester grades and her high school grades and SAT score. High school was even more dismal for her than it was for me - I think she had about a 2.7 and a 1750 SAT or so.

My concern is that VCU is going to see her as an inconsistent student, when the reality is this second semester she's been struggling with personal stuff just as she did in high school and it's had a negative impact on her grades. She can be a great student when her mind is clear and she is in a good environment. I truly believe she would excel at VCU. But I don't know if they'll see it that way.

They are asking for her second semester transcripts now, I don't think there's a way out of giving them to VCU, despite her not applying as a 30 credit student. Her essay and personal statement were strong, in my opinion. She is bilingual but white. She didn't have anything to add to her application - no activities or honor societies at NVCC.

I got into VCU as a transfer student from NVCC with a 2.8 in high school, 1890 SAT, and 3.6 both semesters at CC, although they only asked for first semester. What are her odds? I know VCU has a pretty high acceptance rate, but I also know almost every school frowns on inconsistency.
