First Semester C

I'm going to end up getting a C in AB Calc. I was deferred from U Mich. Will this ruin any chance I have of getting in(i thought i had a good shot before my C)?

well, yeah

gijonman: it's not that your C will be the problem....according to UMich admissions, only about 5% of those deferred will eventually be offered a spot...my d was told directly by gc to "move on" and we have....does anyone know of any OOS students from last year who were initially deferred and were then admitted for RD?

there were a handful from this board

i know of 2 off the top of my head: my brother who was deferred and admitted, i know of another kid at my school who was deferred then admitted. I don't care about the 5 percent, what im worrying about will they just see a C and because its practically all number based, even tho my 2nd semester GPA might me a 3.5, the C will just ruin it all?

well, i had a C and a C- in ap calc BC last year, but i have a 3.6 uw gpa overall and a 33 act with good ECs

got deferred.

i think they saw the C's and freaked out, but that's just me.

Yes, they will view individual grades and see the C. The 5% matters because you've got to assume that more than 5% of those deferred had better grades than you this term. Now if you won some significant award/competition after being deferred, you may still have a chance -- otherwise, I'd move on.

yep i mean i have had some great accomplishments in my winter track season, but am no where good enough to run at UMICH. Luckily i got into UNC Chapel Hill so i mean if i don't get into Mich its not the end of the world(better weather and 59 percent girls(im a guy so great ration)). I just still want a chance to go to Michigan cuz ive been a wolverine fan forever.

"i think they saw the C's and freaked out, but that's just me"

I don't think so.....My d's lowest grade soph/junior year was a B+, 3.7 UWGPA, etc. etc.....also deferred....Unless those C's really brought your UM GPA down from 3.8 to 3.6, they didn't kill you.....(certainly didn't help that GPA though).

i mean my UM GPA will still be on par with my high school average despite the C.
