First Semester Classes for Phase I or II

Which classes should I phase I? How many classes can I put up for phase I?

Math 1B -- 4 Units
Physics 7A -- 4 Units
E 10 -- 3 Units
Econ 1/UGBA 10
CEE 92 -- 1 Units

Is UGBA 10 the same or interchangeable to Econ 1(which is Prequesite for UGBA uppers like 101A)? I want to take afterwards UGBA 101A and 103 or other. I'm doing CEE with a concentration in Engineering Project Management. I am taking them for Humanities non-technical Electives and to satisfy sequence requirement. Which is best, more suitable for my case or perhaps of smaller workload (to start of Berkeley smother)?

Should I take UGBA 10/Econ 1 for P/NP to get used to Berkeley work load? Or can I make it a A that will boost my GPA? Advice.

Thanks for your time!

Is this schedule to rigoruous? and what teachers will you suggest for each class?

I hear nasty things about the competition in UGBA 10. Maybe the Haas folks on here can give you a better idea of what to expect. If you decide to take it, do P/NP. I am an engineering major too, and in general I prefer to take breadth classes P/NP because it allows me more time to invest in other, more interesting classes/research. The possible GPA boost from breadth courses is not worth it in terms of graduate school admissions b/c grad schools care more about your in-major GPA than your cumulative. Physics 7A is a little bit more challenging than people expect. I think your proposed schedule is sort of time-consuming. You should drop one of your classes–no shame in taking 12 or 13 units your first semester.

In response to your other thread, I would suspect that they would allow you to skip a few engineering requirements should you decide to double in BioE and CivE. Additionally, things like CE 100 (fluid mechanics) would probably allow you to skip out of the equivalent class in the BioE department (104?). Looking at your desired CivE concentration, however, I suspect that you wouldn’t be too interested in BioE anyway save for maybe one or two classes.

Thanks for your reply Cupola. Well I am actually quite interested in both. I chose Engineering Management as my focus because I like business and want the basic knowledge. Still I am more interested in BioE.
