I had some health related issues that affected my coursework this semester. After talking with my guidance counselor and teachers, I will be graded with incompletes (and will have until next quarter to receive my final grades).

I don't know how to explain this in mid-year reports.

Can someone offer guidance? How will this affect me in admissions?

Thanks.

You really need to get advice from someone closer to the situation with all the details. Sending a mid-year report with incompletes is going to wave red flags like crazy. So, if you go that route, you probably have to explain what happened. Letter from the guidance counselor would probably be the preferred route.

I'm not recommending this because I don't know what I would do, but I would ponder the possibility of not sending the mid-year report until the grades are complete and taking my chances.

A lot depends on the specific situation and whether the health situation would impact your admissions odds. Just to pick an extreme example to illustrate why the details are important: an emergency gall bladder operation would be viewed differently than being hospitalized for schizophrenia.

Alright, thank you interesteddad.

There is a space on the mid-year reports for the guidance counselor to make comments. Your guidance counselor should definitely make a full explanation in the space provided.

When will any senior grades be available for you? And will they be in time for consideration by the admissions committees?
