First semester scheduling troubles: Please help

Hey CC,

I have been browsing these forums for some guidance but I can't seem to find the answers to my questions. Basically, I didn't get in English R1A for first semester and I am in need of guidance. I'm in CNR and am a pre-med at the moment. My current schedule is Chem 1A, ESPM 2, Math 16A, and COM Lit R1A( A class I want to get out of if I can). I'm also on the waitlist (position 6 in a class size of 35) for Rhetor R1A. I've heard both of these R1A classes are really difficult and I only signed up for them so I wouldnt get behind on English classes. I now realized i probably should have signed up for English R1A. Do I have any chances with the waitlists? But the spaces are all filled up now. What should I do now? Would it be terrible if i just dropped all these English classes entirely and picked up something else that satisfied my breadth? What classes would you guys recommend for my breadth? It seems as if most of those are full as well. Thankyou for taking the time to read my post. I apologize for rambling.

Update= I am now 4th on the waitlist for English R1A and i tossed Rhetor 1A completely. I’m still trying to find a back-up class besides Com Lit R1A to take if i never get off the waitlist for English R1A. (I’m 4th on the list in a class of 17. What are my chances?)

Not sure if it is to late for you but and extremley helpful and useful department on campus is the college writing program. The name of the class is College Writing R4A it is very helpful and I would highly recomend taking it, in order to prepare you for all your other essay based classes at cal which is about 80 Percent!
