I applied to Stanford (deferred), Princeton, Harvard, Yale, MIT, Columbia and UCs (not important)
So, it looks like my first semester grades will be
AP Physics - A
AP Government - A
Math TA - A
AP Lit - A/B
Multivariable Calculus with Computers at UC Berkeley (HELLA hard class) - B-
Do you think this destroys my chances for those schools? Or would it hurt me only if I’m on the edge?
My other grades are a 3.92 UW GPA, 4.32 W GPA…

bump... come on guys.. anyone?

yes, i have the same problem as you.
someone reply, please...

What would hurt...since when does gettting stong grades hurt anyone?

Well, i'm really really worried about that B- I got in Multivariable Calculus with Computers, even though I got A's on Calc B/C both sem, 800 on MathIIC and a 5 on Calc and Stat. I just cant imagining an ivy looking at it positively.... not to mention theres a chance I may get a B in AP Lit simply because i messed up on one quiz. Also, would it matter that my major doesn't even require Multivariable CAlculus? (Economics/Political Science) I guess I may be getting a little too anal, but I'm really scared that these grades just killed me.

You major does not matter for sure.

If you have a strong overall application the B will not matter.

If you are so worried why didn't you try to get an A? If you put the energy of worrying into doing better in the class....... And why worry when there is nothing to do now about it? I too hate sitting on hands not able to do anything, just waiting for the envelopes to come. And the whole fin'l aid issue. But the only course of action you could have done was to do better in class--that helps, where worrying does not.

I don't think you should worry much. Only if you are very marginal will this matter at all. A 'B' in English counts a bit more. I'd put my energy there if I were you. iirc, your essays were only ok.

sorry for my ignorance.. but whats iirc?

Thanks for the advice, the B in english I can still change. I'm pretty sure that I can probably pull that B up to an A, its only that my teacher has no way of really keeping track of our grades. There are no percents or anything, and I guess I could really ask my teacher for a breakdown of my scores so I could see what I need. Thanks for the advice though! I was just assuming the worst in English class.
