How much do first semester grades play a role in decisions AFTER the fact? Cornell has pretty much decided who will be accepted on Early Decision agreement which means I'd find out a week before my finals. Considering my school does grades by semester, if they requested any sort of grading report it would be my tentative unofficial "Progress Report". So my question is, if I should be accepted come December 11, how much do my finals and therefore my FIRST semester senior year grades influence this decision? Could Cornell deny me acceptance after they receive my midyear report to see that my grades slipped between the Progress Report issued date and my official Semester 1 grades? Thanks in advance.

Just like any other college, they want to make sure you don't slack off and not go to class and get terrible grades just because you got accepted early.

Exactly. Some natural slippage (like one half-step) I think is perfectly normal, but they want to make sure that generally your grades have remained constant.

So if I pull straights Bs this semester, is that decent or should I work my butt off for straight As?

It means that one or two B's is acceptable, but I'm pretty sure that straight B's from a Straight A student is going to look pretty bad. I wouldn't do it personally...

i heard ur grades have to be exceptionally bad in order for your acceptance to be revoked. like in the C minus~ D~ F region. so i would say straight B's are not much of a threat.

Thanks for help. Finals are just, ark.

Isn't it a bit early for the "Oh no, am I going to be rescinded?" threads

Well I haven't heard of Cornell requesting other people's semester grades when they aren't even official yet, so it got me thinking.
