First Sitting - Would like to increase 500 points within a year

I am a junior in high school, just got my results back for my first sitting today. I’m slightly disappointed in my scores however I still have time to raise them.

I got a:

Math: 620
Critical Reading: 590
Writing:570
Multiple Choice 57 (score range: 20-80)

Essay 8

How can I increase my SAT score up 500+ points within a year and another sitting? Any advice would be amazing and I apologize for the massive amounts of posts on here. Thanks for your time.

You may want to look at the ACT - perhaps you’ll fare better on that test, as many students do.

A 500+ point increase (I’m assuming your goal is a top 20 school, as that’s the only tier for which you’d need to set such an absurdly high target score) would likely prompt the College Board to withhold your scores and have you take the test again in controlled conditions, as such jumps between sittings are exceedingly unlikely. Don’t bank on it.

Order the CB’s Blue Book, which has a number of practice tests and some tips for each section. Go through all the practice tests. Several students at my school have boosted their scores by ~200 points in this way.

In a year, they will be administering the new SAT. So, you won’t be able to make a direct comparison to your current scores. Its a completely different test. Get the new blue book which is actually greenish-blue.
