So after browsing the CC forums, I've become very interested in self-studying for one or two AP classes next year. The problem is, my poor guidance counselor was completely boggled when I brought up the subject to her as no student in my school has ever taken an AP without taking the course.

I'd like some advice on which APs to self-study, ones that I can get a pretty good score on (3,4,5, in my school) and then more students can be encouraged to do self-study as well.

I've taken AP English Lang, AP English Lit, APUSH, and next year I'll be taking AP Stats. I'm relatively bad at math, so I can throw AP Calc out the window.

Any suggestions and thoughts would be VERY helpful!

if your school is new to the concept of self-studying, you’re gonna wanna push them hard to make it possible for you to do so. this is gonna require that they have a room for you and a proctor. this is likely gonna be a pain. that’s why you’re gonna have to push hard for it.

and don’t ask which APs are easy to self study. don’t take an AP for the sake of taking an AP. take it because the subject interests you or you want to demonstrate competency in it.

Some APs are a lot easier to take if you have a teacher to… teach… the subject to you. I’m not trying to take the easy way out of anything, but I don’t want to get in over my head, get a 1 on the exam, and ruin it for kids in the future.

Environmental Science, Human Geography, and Psychology are the three easy ones. I’m self-studying for these three now, and I plan to make 5s. The material is relatively simple; you won’t need a teacher or a course–just a prep book and some determination. (bunch of memorization though)

how easy is it to study for art history? i’m also considering self-studying next year and am the first at my school to do so. my school offers the class, but it won’t fit on my schedule.

Lol im a freshman that has never taken an AP and im selfstudying 5 APs including AP bio.

it is not that hard. i suggest doing intense cram sessions. and applying random concepts to life.

even if that involves stating random theories in normal conversations to a resounding “***? nerd”
