First time doing this, I hope I get all the correct info posted

Please chance my URM D for
Amherst
UPenn
Swarthmore
Northwestern
Claremont McKenna
Pomona
Stanford

Or possible recommendations that might be a great fit for her. Thanks!

Scores
PSAT 210
SAT 2100
SAT Spanish 750
SAT US 730

All classes are honors except the following AP’s
US History (4)
Spanish (5)
European History (4)
2 D (4)
Comp Gov currently taking
Calculus AB currently taking
Drawing and Painting currently taking
Psychology currently taking
Biology currently taking
Humanities currently taking

The school she attends is a nationally recognized and competitive private school in the Southwest and does not rank, but D is in the top 10%

4.00 unweighted

Should have great RECS

Extras

Class Officer 4 Years

Varsity swim 5 years, 4 state championships so far and Captain this year, should be Academic All American Swimmer by end of season

Water polo 2 years, 1 state championship, involved in Olympic Development Program, Academic All American Water Polo with Outstanding Achievement Status, Captain

National Merit Semi Finalist (so far)

National Hispanic Scholar

AP Scholar with Honors (by end of year National AP Scholar)

Community Builders Program- community service and non profit development

Chances are difficult because 1) I’m not intimately acquainted with those schools and 2) I haven’t seen her essays and recommendations. You can look on CollegeBoard to get an idea of the incoming class’s test scores, and of what’s important to the school in admissions (test scores, ECs, demonstrated interest, etc.)

But as far as “possible recommendations that might be a great fit for her”, what subjects does she like? Does she want a small intimate school or the excitement of college sports? Are you willing and able to pay what the FAFSA 4Caster says you should pay? Does she want to pursue sports in college and is she good enough for a scholarship?

Good luck! :)

Try posting it in the (what are my chances) forum.

Those are all reach schools. Academic All American Swimmer and Water Polo Player should be very good bumps (when did girls start playing aqua boxing??).

She has a realistic chance at all of them. However, those are all crapshoots for anyone. Please make sure she has a safety (or 2) that she loves.

Since your D is Hispanic, look at the Hispanic numbers at those schools. If the numbers are low, then her chances are better.

As mentioned above…have some financial safeties on the list as well. Many/most of those schools don’t give merit scholarships, so you may be expected to pay more than you’re willing to pay.

However, if money is no object, then super!!! Just have a couple of safeties as back ups.

Thanks everyone for the input! This is my only child so it is my first and only time to help with this process though I feel like all the work has been done by my D. I appreciate this websites forum because it seems there is always someone that is either in the same boat or has the knowledge and experience to share. Thanks again! Oh and Erin’sDad-love the reference to water polo as aqua boxing

Aqua boxing is what we called it in college because of everything that goes on under the water. I had WP during PE one day - not fun being a minimal swimmer.

This was 5 years ago, and times may have changed, but, my D, also Hispanic, applied to three of the schools on your D’s list. Her results were negative to UPenn (Huntsman), yes to NU and Claremont.

The only stat not higher than your D’s was the GPA, at 3.91. There was no weighting at her BS. She took many SATIIs, none below 740. She had many leadership positions, national competition in two sports (both decidedly land based) and one academic area, and captained one of those sports for one year, the other three, as well as being a member of our state’s hall of fame for that sport, though that came after all apps. were in.

Your D should get many nice acceptances, but matches and safeties are a must. It’s tough out there.

Echoing post #5, she’s got a reasonable chance at all of the schools, but will also need some safety schools.

Stanford has EA, so it is probably worth applying EA there. I think the rest only offer ED, which is binding, so only worth doing if there is a clear favorite.

It might be worth picking out a match or safety that offers EA, so that you could know early that she’s in at least one school, and then could focus on reaches.

What is she looking for in a school? Size, location, majors, etc.? If we knew more, we could offer better suggestions. The schools you list don’t seem to fit any common theme.
