When I was seven years old I was nearly hit by a car.

When I was ten years old I nearly pierced a nerve in my left palm when a pencil went through my dominant hand.

When I was fourteen years old I nearly drowned.

Major: Aerospace Engineering/ Electrical Communications Engineering

Schools:

Rice University
Cornell University
Carnegie Mellon University
Georgia Institute of Technology
Princeton University
MIT
Purdue University
Washington University in St. Louis
Northwestern University

It seems derisory to include your story about almost drowning, giving a 4th grade presentation, almost being struck by a car twice, and hurting your hand with a pencil as “hooks”. I understand essays, but not this.

Think about what an admissions officer would say after reading “I almost drowned when I was 14” and “I gave a 4th grade presentation on stars” if they weren’t in essays.

You don’t want to write you’re college applications like that. The hooks only make you seem stupid rather than giving you a boost at colleges.

Without the hooks tell me about my chances with colleges sorry I’m a new poster. It’s not my fault, seriously. But ignore the “hooks” and tell me about my chances at certain colleges.

Those aren’t hooks, they’re stories about your life. Hooks are things like recruited athlete, 1st generation college student, low income (sometimes), URM, legacy and things like that.
Why is your Math 1 subject test score lower than the Math 2 one? Math 1 is easier isn’t it?

Cornell, Princeton, MIT are reaches because of your grades, you still have a good chance though
The other schools seem like matches but your grades could hold you back at some of them.

Guys can we cease discussion of my “hooks” and just chance me with advice like Newton did???/ Sheeeeeeesh!!

You’re class rank has a large impact on what colleges you accept you. Many of you’re extra curricular activities such as “Yo-Yoing” are not going to be counted. You want extra curricular activities that you did at you’re school, you put a lot of hobbies rather than EC’s. I think most of the colleges you have stated will be difficult to get into, but not impossible. You have a pretty good shot at GIT though…

3.42 GPA pretty low, MIT/Princeton might be out of reach.

Bump bump…
