After perusing this forum, I've seen many, many a post saying self studying AP Art History as your first AP test isn't a good idea. Can anybody explain why? Along with AP Art History, I'll be taking AP Physics B and AP World, though those are classes. Should I put the study of Art History off until junior year, and self study Human Geo and Psych, instead of Art History and Psych? Or do you guys think it would be fine?

Sorry if there is a question like this, I did some searching and didn't find the answer.

Is this your first time taking APs? If you’ve never taken AP classes/tests before, I’d put it off until next year. That way, when you self-study, you’ll be used to the whole process and will know what you need to do, to do well. But if you took some last year, you should be fine.

This is my first year taking AP classes. Thanks for the input! Somebody in another thread self study the “softer” APs and then work your way up, so I think I’ll just stick to psych this year.

I don’t think there’s anything wrong with it. You just need to be prepared to put in a lot of time and effort. Time I think you have, since you’re only taking 2 AP classes. Taking some released exams will allow you to gauge where you are.

Still, consider taking Bio or Psych instead since those are more major APs colleges will look at.
