FIrst Time Taker, SCORES ARE TERRIBLE

Hello Guys, Im a junior this year. 3.9 GPA All gifted and AP classes 9 Total.

I seem to ace tests in claass but cant do to well on standarized tests.

I know these scores arent that good at all and im not happy but considering i FREAKED out on the science part and guessed on like TWENTY Ill be okay.

R-29
M-25
R-24
S-21 <- I know i know, its terrible.

C-25.

SO my goal is to get into some very high level colleges ie. Duke, Gerogetown, Chicago, Berk. With science to where i know it should be and prep.. How hard would be for me to pull that into the 31-32+ range? Any success stories would be encouraging.

Practice practice practice. Take all the practice tests you can. Brush up on your math because it is the easiest section to anticipate.

Yes, it is possible. I took a practice test cold the spring of Jr. year and scored the same as you. I really hate studying for these but was able to bring it to a 30 with very little prep. You can bring it up to a 31/32 by applying yourself. sean256 has it right. The most important thing is to practice and treat test prep as another class as far as homework goes. I took a prep class for the psat and it was a waste of time for me. I used the prep books for the ACT (but not enough!). For your target schools I would really go for it and try to get into the 33 range if at all possible. Keep your GPA up too and make sure you take the hardest classes possible, even Sr year. Going through the process right now it is incredibly competitive for the schools you are targeting. Those tests scores just keep going up year after year. Good luck!

I’ll also expand on what nbg127 said. He is right, treat the prep as a class. I had to force myself to think like that in order to actually start working. I set up a time daily and picked 3 days out of the week and told myself I had a class from 3:30 to 6:30. The rest is history but who knows if it will pay off because of that damn science section…sorry I have to vent. Good luck and keep working hard. I realized too late that I needed to improve my test scores to DEFINITELY get into some of my top choice schools.

yeah, what sean256 and nbg127 said.

do practice tests and learn in the process, you should be able to raise your score without much problem.

I took the act cold in oct of 2007 and got a 29. with practice tests and stuff like that, i raised it to a 34(dec 2008 testing).

soo theres a success story :stuck_out_tongue: and good luck, practice will definitely help you raise your score!
