First Time?!

So I'm a junior that took the ACT as my first time during April. I got a composite score of 26 and I took the test cold without minimal preparation (looked at the english section the day before in the packet I received at my hs career center). I didn't know how to manage my time on test and I feel that I was "pressed" for time and I couldn't finish most of the questions (had like 10 or more left when time was called). Any tips for me to increase my score for the June Testing date and what is a realistic score to aim at? Any books that you guys would recommend? How can I increase my testing speed and finish the questions in the limited amount of time?

Individual:
English: 26
Math: 27
Reading: 24
Science: 25

TIPS PLEASE! Thanks.

I would just recommend that you continue to re-take the test. Your should score should increase as will your time-management skills. Preparation is the key to success!

do practice tests, LOTS of them, that way you’ll manage to keep accurate time and learn from your mistakes

For the science section, I suggest u read the questions first before you look at the data they provide you. Often, you will find that you don’t need to read all the descriptions that accompany the graph or table.
For math, do the easier problems first and then go back and do the harder ones. don’t dwell on any problems that will take longer than 1min to solve at the first go. u only have 60min to solve 60 questions for the math section: thats one min per question.
For the other sections and the above two sections, I suggest u look at the watch once in a while to pace urself. theres 75 questions for the English section and 45min allotted for u to finish it. Thats about 39sec per question. Theres 60min for 60 questions for math, so 1min/question. Theres 35min for 40questions for reading section, thats about 53sec/question (slightly less than a min, so i suggest u read the questions first and pick out keywords from the passage that relates to the questions as u skim through it when u r pressed for time). This is the same for the science section.

I would suggest practice tests.

thanks. any more tips? what is a realistic goal to aim at? what prep book should I get?

With dedicated practice, you should be able to bump up your score to a 28-29. Good luck!

Thanks for all the tips! Any more? :p
