My son (he's a sophomore) will be taking his first subject tests next weekend. He has been studying for them with the Barron's books (Math 2 and World History). How similar are the subjects tests to the AP exams? What is the best advice you can give him?

Tell him not to get discouraged with Barron's IIc, it's much harder than the actual test. If he learns everything in the book, he'll be more than prepared.

if you tell him that barrons is notoriously hard then that might make him lazy. that is what happened to me when i was taking the 11 PR tests for SAT I. someone said that they were very hard so i took it lightly and became overconfident.

just encourage him to learn everything and then on test day he will find out that he is very well prepared and get that 800.

a good score with barrons tests for math II is like 650-700. if he can get that then that is a good sign

Well, first of all, as a teen, I have to say that you SHOULDN'T go crazy on your son about SAT II's. The best thing my parents can say to me about a test is, "Do your best, and that's all you can do". As for the actual testing experience, it's an hour long test in a room with 30 other kids taking different hour long tests. Not really a big deal.
