First Transfer Orientation Session

Did anyone here go down for the first session? I'm heading to LA for the session this Friday, and I just wanted to know if anyone is going and what to expect. Like what was the schedule like, what should I bring, how many people stuck around till the very end?

I don't think I brought anything to my Transfer Orientation. I just went with friends. Expect a tour, people telling you to be friendly, a video about cheating, etc etc. You know, the typical things you hear at any orientation. They welcome you, they give you some tips, they tell you not to be nervous, etc.

I think everyone(?) sticks around till the end because you will sign up for classes at the end. At least thats what I did :(.

most people stay til the end but it probably would've been smarter to leave a few hours early and get home in time for 8 or whenever they open up registration so you don't have to wait for your turn on the computer. i remember wishing i had done this instead of sitting around in the dorms for too long.

otherwise, i dunno. if you've done any sort of online research before/during/after your transfer, you probably know everything they're going to tell you at orientation. i found that OCs weren't terribly helpful with transfers because they're used to helping freshmen who generally don't know anything about class planning/major information/whatever, and since transfers SHOULD be pros at that by 3rd year, they're just kind of superfluous or even remedial with their advice. just meet people, look around, and figure out your classes.

Would it be reasonable to bring a laptop and just register with your own computer? and hopefully some kind of wireless connection on campus.

ucla wireless is weak/nonexistent in the dorms. if you can manage to leech onto someone's personal wifi you'd be ok but nothing is guaranteed, and with so many people trying to get on at once, its difficult. i brought my laptop and ended up not using it.
