First try vs. Retake for Superscore

I know this issue is commonly brought up as a disguise for "brag" threads, so I'll just ask my basic questions:

Since my goal is to get into HYP, who use superscoring (top three M, CR, and W), would it be worth it to retake a 2300+ SAT in order to increase one of subject areas and thus my overall superscore?

Is it better to have a good score on the first try or an even better one that comes from different test administrations?

Thanks!

Do.

Not.

Retake.

A 2300+.

You will look like a total and complete fool. To everybody, including HYP.

I took my first SAT in october and got 2310 with 800 writing and cr but 710 math because I made three stupid mistakes. I want to go to Caltech or MIT, so this was definitely a problem and I took the December SAT. This time, I got 2370 with 800 math and cr and 770 writing. So now my superscore is 2400 and I am really happy that I decided to retake it. However, if I had gotten something like 770 in each section and 2310 overall, I probably wouldn't have retaken it.

Go over to the Stanford, Columbia, Brown ED threats for 2012 and you'll see a lot of high scorers got rejected/deferred. Stanford admitted this student with 1700+. So try to focus on other areas and not just SAT. Especially once you reach a certain scores like 2300+.
