first two weeks of class. shopping period?

hey i read in the student handbook that classes can be added/dropped within the first 2 weeks of class. i am unsure about a language class and a 1-credit class (mainly problems with my credit limit), so are we allowed to walk into lectures to see if we like the class? the language class that i am interested in has a cap of 15 people, so wouldn't it be rude if i'm not registered for the class and i just walk right in?

any help will be appreciated. thanks!

I attended Italian Elements (Cap = 15 peeps) for 2 weeks before adding it. I told the teacher before the start of class what my plan was, that I fully intended to register, and she was fine with it. Just ask the teacher, “hey, I’m not sure if I can take this course, do you mind if I audit it for 2 weeks?” It’s a great idea to audit an extra class that interests you for those two weeks in case you need/want to drop something so you’re not behind.

hey thanks! what if i end up not registering for the class (bc i can’t take 19 credits) even after auditing for 2 weeks? wouldn’t the teacher be upset?
i’m thinking about taking the class 2nd semester but i don’t want to have any issues with the professor!

Just tell them you’re not sure you’ll register, but you might take it next semester because your schedule is pretty full…

Are you an engineer?

nope i’m in arts&sciences. i just have 16 credits as of now and even though the advising page says i can contact my adviser to add a language class, i’m pretty sure 19 credits is out of the question.

wait like they’ll let you overload with a language? i wish i knew about that…

i’m pretty sure the limit is 16.5…

you can go slightly over 16.5 credits. before, i had a one-credit class, leading me up to 14 credits, and i called my adviser to add a 3-credit language course, bringing my total up to 17. however, i just dropped those 2 classes for one 3-credit class that applies for my (intended) major. of course i can never make up my mind so i just want to see those classes during the 1st 2 weeks in case i end up really liking them/i end up hating the class that i’m signed up for.

First semester, they will let you overload with a language, since I took 16.5 first semester with a language. After that, if you have above a 3.5, they will let you exceed 16.5 credits.
