first Valentine's day present for my bf

Hi everyone:

He is my first bf and our first Valentine's day is coming. Any suggestions on what kind of present should I get for him?

Thanks in advance for any help:)

Most guys only want one thing...

But in all seriousness, gift giving is not something you can seek help for on an anonymous message board. A great gift will require consideration and listening to him. It is frequently something that he wouldn't think to buy himself, or fills a need he didn't realize he had. If he's complaining constantly about his computer being hot, give him a laptop cooler. If he constantly says how much he wants/misses his dog, buy him a stuffed dog.

Guys are tough to buy for, but I don't have that problem.

My boyfriend and I have been together for 2.5 years and haven't bought each other presents ever...we make each other funny cards on our birthdays, that's it. Neither of us have money and it's kinda silly to buy each other expensive stuff we don't need.

Well, Valentine's day doesn't seem to be the kind of holiday that you give gifts... Maybe flowers and a kiss?

Given the lack of information about your boyfriend in the post I'm going to have to agree with this. There is no material gift, unless you're buying something stupidly expensive, that would be better than a bj or three. Just sayin'.

Anyway, how much are you looking to spend? It matters quite a bit.

surely not three bjs in a row, though. gotta give him time to bounce back.

anyway. if you guys haven't been dating very long, make him a mix cd and arrange some private time for yourselves. hell, you could do this even if you have been dating a while.

eta OR bake him something. brownies, cupcakes, cookies, pies, whatever. food is where it's at.

Well of course, spread them over the day.

But yeah, depending on how long you've been going out, how serious the relationship is and how much you want to spend there are going to be vastly different things you could get him. I've gotten everything from a powerpoint (I wish I was kidding, oh so very much) to a girl taking me on a ski trip (not as expensive as it sounds since it was her aunt's condo, and I got to pay for my lift ticket/ski rental, so I guess it wasn't expensive at all for her.)

A POWERPOINT?!? Ahahahahahaha.

yes, tell us more about this powerpoint!

i hope you have it saved.

If it's a powerpoint full of... pictures then it would definitely be worth it.

for our first valentine's day, i made my boyfriend cute iced cookies & gave him a simple card. we'd been dating for about 3 months (and had said "i love you" for the first time about a week before!).

he gave me a really really romantic gift--an unwrapped copy of the audacity of hope that he bought that day at the campus bookstore..there's more to the story, but let's just say he hasn't heard the end of it from my friends & has promised not to screw up this year haha.

Yeah, it wasn't a "good" powerpoint. She kept talking about how long she'd spent on her present and then she loaded up her laptop... ugh. That relationship was a disaster on oh so many levels. I think I have it saved somewhere but trust me, it was utterly boring to me and I knew the two people in it. And then she lost the necklace I got her. To replace the necklace that I'd gotten her that she'd lost. The same day that I bought it. I. Hate. Valentine's. Day.

What's wrong with Audacity of Hope? That's a great gift!

Anyhow. Just get him food. Cookies, cake, cupcakes, etc. are good gifts for guys.

Video games and man toys for stuff like Christmas/B-Days.

1.) i voted for clinton in the primaries
2.) the gift was clearly something he grabbed at the last minute when he was like, "oh s***! it's valentine's day & all that's crossed my mind for the past week is the physics class i'm failing!" the book was on display at the front of the store.
3.) i had a killer test the day after valentine's day, so i told him i couldn't go out that night, expecting him to pick a day to reschedule. instead, he said, "oh. okay."
4.) the book was accompanied by a card he made that day at a booth for some student organization. he proceeded to tell me that he'd drawn hearts on it with glitter glue but DIDN'T HAVE TIME TO LET THE GLUE DRY, so he stuck foam shapes on top of it.
5.) one day a year, even politically-minded girls just want flowers.

for our anniversary, he said he had something nice planned, and i was like, "i hope it's dreams from my father!!!!!!" haha

^BJ and etc.?

Not sure if it's been said yet, but he doesn't care what you get him. It's a holiday for women that men go through the motions for so their SO does not get mad.

how bout just a nice date and spend some time together. then a bubble bath together or something.

I second the recommendation for a bubble bath together.

the OP's name

Hmm first Valentine's Day with the bf, too. I'm thinking I'll draw something, and if I can make cookies...buuuut the oven in my dorm tends to set off the fire alarm, force everyone to evacuate, and have the firetrucks pay a visit. Ah, that would be a Valentine's Day to remember, I might just go for it.
