first year care package?

Hi current or former Smithie's - We just got a letter suggesting we buy a care package through Smith for the last day of class. Is it worth it? Do lots of people get them? Would we be better off making our own?
Thanks,
OM

Yes, lots of people get them and I think they are worth it. Mime always came stocked with cookies, fruit, homemade apple cider donuts, trail mix, crackers, cheese, and sometimes a gift ( the contents varied every year, but these bits at least were pretty much constant). They’re nice also because a lot of her friends will get them and it’s nice to feel included. Of course if you’re a care package aficionado, or if she has allergies or is a picky eater, you might prefer to make your own. My mom is a big baker and she always said that she wanted to make me a care package instead of buying me one, but between work, prepping for the holidays, and general living, she was afraid she would forget or wait until it was too late to ship one, and she didn’t want me to be without

I’m with your mom - lot’s of intentions and not a lot of time so we will go for it- plus who doesn’t want cider donuts!

I haven’t received the letter. Did it arrive by regular mail, or online? What is the price for the package?

Does Smith allow food to remain in the small, in-room refridgerators over the winter break? If not, my D might have to eat industriously to get through all the treats in the package (or maybe not.)

Trust me, the way that Smith women eat during finals is pretty extreme. Between the long hours and the stress and her friends, she will have no problems finishing her stuff.

Besides, You have to unplug and defrost your fridge before you go home on break (they come round and inspect after all the students go home) so you cant/shouldn’t keep things in there. Most of the stuff is easy to transport, so she should just bring the extra home with her. Mice have been known to visit Smith rooms occasionally (old houses) if students leave open food lying around over break, so actually i recommend she take home/throw out whatever is not packaged up tight.

We got the letter in the mail I think two days ago. The food is a mix of perishable and non perishable and it was very reasonable $25.00 or $30.00 depending on which you pick.

Prairie, if you haven’t received the letter in a few days or you’re worried about it, you can always call the SGA office and ask about ordering one over the phone. They will direct you to the president or cabinet members of your D’s class (it’s the class cabinets that buy, assemble, and distribute the care packages).

My mom usually got me the basic package, but senior year she splurged and got me the deluxe (it comes with an extra drink and bit more food).

Thank you.

Prairie, we just got the letter today and we live 1-1/2 hours away! You have till December 1 to sign up, so you have plenty of time.

Anyone’s daughter received these yet? I asked my daughter and she hadn’t received it although I sent in the form to order one.

They should have sent her an email telling her where to pick them up. I think they’ve started handing them out. She should contact her class president or someone in her class cabinet if she’s deleted or missed the email and make sure that she hasn’t missed out on hand out.

Northernwoods, I just asked my daughter. She has received hers (from the SGA). Maybe she could check with them to see if she’s on the list. Did your check clear the bank?

My daughter got hers yesterday but also had to pick it up after an e-mail. She could also ask someone in her house where they picked theirs up and walk over to see if hers is there - good luck!
My daughter said the donuts were good :)

I did finally hear from my daughter that she picked up her package and the goodies were much appreciated. I was a little worried since my check hasn’t been cashed but I’m sure they will get to it eventually.
