I'm going to be a pre-med science major (biology or neuroscience) first year, so what classes should I expect to have the first year?

I'm asking because I want to start ordering those used books.

Thanks!

Thanks!

but don't different teachers use different books?

yea probably..

but I was thinking that something like intro. chem would have only one book.. or something like calculus 1 would have only one book too...

but I don't know.

I would recommend one of the LS 1/2/3/4 series (depending on AP credit), and one of the Chem 14A/14B/20A/20B series (depending on AP credit) along with a GE class.

flopsy what do you think about this schedule

EE M16
EE 2
MAE 105A or Material Science & Engeering 104
Astronomy 5

That's feasible... EE 2 and EE M16 (a.k.a. CS M51A) are medium-difficulty, but I don't know how hard MAE 105A or Astro 5 are... but since I haven't heard any horror stories, I'm sure they're not as hard as EE 2 and EE M16 are.

flopsy, is this a feasible 1st quarter, or would it be too difficult for a freshman biophysics major?

physics 1AH
chem 20A
math 33A (i have the prereqs)
GE class

also, does a 5 on the AP bio let you skip life sci 1?

flopsy, what do you mean depending on AP credit?

funny how everyone asks flopsy, hehe :D

Yes, that's also feasible... I don't know about Physics 1AH since I'm not an Honors-eligible student (HSSEAS) but Physics 1A was medium-difficulty, Chem 20A was difficult but had a light workload, and Math 33A was medium-difficulty. Actually, I'm not sure if a 5 on the AP Biology exam will count for LS 1 credit anymore... Never mind the "AP credit" I mentioned previously. Assume that you have to start with LS 1 and Chem 20A no matter which AP classes/scores you got in high school.

if i am an entering freshman going to orientation session 6 (out of ten), will i have trouble getting classes than I want --

ie. LS1, Math 31B, Art of Lstning, and GE clster hist. modern thought?

I would imagine lots of premeds will enroll into the LS and M31 series and lots of slackers will enroll into the Art of Listening course before I can enroll.

im just curious...are the only english classes freshman take Eng Comp 2 and 3? And which do u take first 2 or 3? Sounds dumb but when i was lookin at soemthing i thought i saw comp 3 as being a pre req. And is Comp 2 the same as Writing 2 seminar?

comp 2 is not a writing 2 seminar, neither is comp 3. you only take comp 2 if you didnt pass/take the entry writing exam or passed out of it by SAT/ACT score, i think. most freshmen will have to take eng comp 3 for writing I credit, unless you got a certain AP score on english or 720+ on SAT writing.

i looked for seminars under english on the My.UCLA class planner, because i want to see what my schedule would be like, and i couldnt find them. Also most freshman take comp 3 in fall then seminar later and then are done with english?

yeah you have to take comp 3 before you can get the writing II/seminar credit for the writing II/seminar class. if you just take a cluster you will get your writing II/seminar out of the way and 3 other GEs. but you have to have finished eng comp 3 by the end of winter quarter to receive the writing II credit (unless you previously fulfilled writing I with AP or high writing SAT)
