First-Year Courses

I am planning to apply as a transfer to Brown, Tufts, and Dartmouth among some other schools and had a quick question about my courseload as a first-year student. I am a rising college freshman.

I am currently enrolled as a Biochem major at my to-be school for this fall, and am on a pre-med track. I took a bunch of APs during high, mainly focused on my future prereqs: AP Chem, Calc, Bio, and both AP English classes.

I must retake the college equivalents of these classes in colleges because medical schools are stingy about AP credit, and quite frankly, the fact that every medical school has its own unique “policy” on AP credit is too damn confusing. Therefore, I will take the respective 1st year courses, and will most likely get As in all of them (forfeiting my AP credit.)

My question is, will I be put at a disadvantage when these colleges will see that I already took the AP versions of my respective first year courses? Will they be under the assumption that I failed my AP exams, and thus, forfeited my credit for this reason?

bump, por favor

If you send them your AP scores, there will be no reason for them to. But I seriously think that’s a non issue. I took AP Psych in high school, took it again in college, and was accepted as a transfer to UVA, UNC, Northwestern, Boston College, and Boston University. And I even got a W the first time I took it! I’m sure you’ll be fine.

No, Dartmouth doesn’t even accept AP credits at all and Brown is very stingy.
