First Year Here. Wanna Know Your First Few Months at Smith.

Hey, you guys. I'm a first-year at Smith. I wanna ask all the other first year students about their first fall semester at Smith? Was the work stressful? Did you made any new friends? Are you enjoying the weather? Are you surviving? ^_^

Wait, aren't you already at Smith or you meant you will be a first year?

I am a first year student at Smith. I want to know about other first year students' experiences at Smith these few months. Sorry. ^_^

I have made new friends for sure, my classes were challenging but not overbearingly so, the weather I love since I'm from the area anyways, and surviving? Well, I'm thinking about transferring, for social reasons and some academic reasons. I don't think Smith is my fit.

What about you?

Sara, I do not mean to pry, and if your reasons are personal, please do not respond. But, when you say social reasons and some academic reasons...what exactly do you mean?

Well in the other Smith thread you saw most of my reasons, mainly social. But, I want to attend Bates instead of Smith. I like their 4-4-1 calendar...it allows me to have more time at school, more intern opportunities, & they have what seems like a stronger study abroad program with language intensive classes while you are away and a few other academic reasons. One of my majors will be a language so thats helpful to me. But you saw most of my reasons in the other thread.

{One of my majors will be a language}

You want to go to Middlebury then.

Sounds like Middlebury is a better fit to me as well!

except the only take like 9 transfers out of 221-ish, or I would. Plus, maybe a little too secluded to me. Their language program over the summer might be another choice for me to consider. I might apply anyways though, I need another school option other than Bates. I was thinking about only applying to one school, but that makes no sense since I want to def. leave smith...what if one doesnt work out? what do you all think?

Do any of you know a student at Midd I could get in contact with?

{I need another school option other than Bates. I was thinking about only applying to one school, but that makes no sense since I want to def. leave smith...what if one doesnt work out? what do you all think?}

You need to apply to numerous colleges. Bates accepts a very limited number of transfers also.

Fwiw- Bates doesn’t have a stronger study abroad program, but it’s a mute point. Smith allows you to study abroad with any approved college program.
If you're interested in studying in Wales, you can go with Colgate’s program, etc.

I've heard Wesleyan has a good study abroad program -and they accept around 35% of transfers. I don't know your social reasons though. If it's b/c Smith is too liberal, Wes is no good. That famous Penn-consortium is strong in linguistics I think.

{{but it’s a mute point.}}

LOL--Mute point? I must have been high or battling with the little kid, again!! Moot sound better?

much better. :)

{{I've heard Wesleyan has a good study abroad program}}

Seriously, don’t pick a college because of its study abroad program. Any student can join any other colleges program. If you like the Midd program in Spain, go with them.
Smiths program where you spend a year in France is quite unique though
