I am trying to figure out my first year housing options, and I would like to know more about what each specific dorm is like. Also I'm not planning on staying in a program house, I'd like to know more about the residence halls.

I don’t think you choose the dorms…it’s a random lottery system. If you are into a specific program housing, then you can choose which program house you would like to go into.

Here’s a list of the dorms with some characteristics
Mews and CourtKayBauer are the best. The Townhouses apartments are not good because they are far from everything. Donlon, High/Low rises, and Dickson are OK. balch is girls only.

Dont worry too much because you don’t have much say on where you live during freshman year.

I heard that Donlon is very social (read:loud) and that the Ecology house is largely awful, if that helps at all. Other than that, it’s a lottery. Does anyone know when we find out our dorm assignments, by the way?

Remote, we’re supposed to apply for housing by May 1st. After you’ve done that, you should receive an e-mail that says that housing assignments will be e-mailed to you in June. (Here’s the link to the housing page: [Housing - logging-in-to-the-housing-portal](<a href=“Residential Life | Student & Campus Life | Cornell University”>Residential Life | Student & Campus Life | Cornell University) , you can log in with your ApplicantID)

hey i’m an 15er. I realize the ecology house is really far from everything but i’m really interested in the dorm because it’s soooo beautiful! Also it has private bathroom! Amazing activities! Library nearby!
How awful it exactly is to go to central campus for classes from ecology house in winter days? What if by bike? If the weather really sucks i may go for other dorms…

remote, plz see above… How awful IS the ecology house?
