Hello. I'm just wondering what the chances are that my request to downgrade to the Residential Semester 100 for my second semester will be honored, and whether anyone here has tried this or can offer advice. I really don't feel that I need another "All Access 7" plan for next semester; I have dietary restrictions that keep me from eating most of what the dining halls have to offer, and I typically only swipe in for the social experience. However, since I live in a residential college and adjusted pretty quickly, I don't really have to seek out a social environment, and I also have easy access to a kitchen, which makes my eating situation pretty simple. I already put in a request to downgrade, but I'm wondering if I should send an e-mail to Dining to further explain my request. It's an extra thousand dollars that I have no reason to spend, and I really don't understand the required plans for first years.

I would fully explain the reason for your request in writing as soon as possible.

Swing, Unless you have documentation from a doctor stating your nutritional needs can not be met from the dining halls you are probably out of luck for another semester. I’m not unsympathetic to your frustration, but UVa requires all first year students to have a meal plan. This was information available prior to committing, so no surprises there.

There’s currently a thread in the Parents Forum on this subject posted by another student in a similar situation.
