what is included in the first year studies?

It depends on your intended major. But everyone takes PE, First Year Composition (unless they test out with AP English or are in the honors program), and some sort of freshman seminar. Most people also start taking classes for university requirements, often a theo/philo.

And there’s usually a required 2 math and science requirement one has to fulfill as a first year.

is there an university placement test that we have to take in addition to our ap scores in order to get out of the class?

Depends on the class. Language classes have placement tests, but usually AP tests will suffice for other subjects (English, science, history, math).

Calculus AB 3 3 Mathematics 10250
Calculus AB 4 4 Mathematics 10550

Notre Dame requires 2 semesters of math. Does that mean a score of 4 would get us out of the math requirement? since Mathematics 10550 already is a level higher than Mathematics 10250

no. i got a 5 on BC and it got me out of Calc 1 and 2. However, it may be different depending on your major, so i’m not positive

MATH 10250 and MATH 10550 are not considered two “different” semester of Math. They are both Calculus I, but different paths (MATH 10250 more geared toward arts and letters students while MATH 10550 is a requirement for many science majors, being a little more difficult Calculus). Thus, you would need credit for (MATH 10250 and MATH 10260) OR (MATH 10550 and MATH 10560) to get credit for two math semesters. Hope that wasn’t too confusing.

The 10250/10260 track is for business majors - don’t be fooled, if you are definitely going to be A&L, you can easily take classes like Introductory Logic or other such easier math classes. I’m an English major who was hoodwinked into taking Calc II for Business, and it is, to date, the worst grade I have received in college.

Yeah, those two courses are in 2 different math tracks, not two sequential courses. There is a calc track for business (this is the easier track), calc for engineers/science majors/etc, and honors calc. Calc AB will get you out of calc 1 and I believe calc BC will get you out of 1 and 2. Also, if you are in the honors program, your AP credits won’t count towards the math requirement for the honors program.

thanks for the detailed responses guys. I’m planning to go into Mendoza as I have also indicated on my app and I absolutely HATE calculus so I was hoping my AP score can get me out of it.
According to “(MATH 10250 and MATH 10260) OR (MATH 10550 and MATH 10560)”, does that mean I’m binded to take MATH 10560 since i’m getting credit for MATH 10550? Or maybe my Statistics credit can count as a math requirement? Yeah i’m really trying to avoid math in college…

And shellzie, right now i’m actually kind of glad i didn’t get into the Honors Program, seems like a lot of extra requirements.

No, you get credit for 10250 or 10550… if you are going into business, all you would need to do is take MATH 10260 and you have your math requirement done. The thing with the Statistics is that it might count as a math credit, but the business school explicitly requires MATH 10250/MATH 10260. In other words, Calculus 1 and Calculus 2 are requirements for a business degree.
