First year parking

my sister, a UCD alumni, told me that they put in a new rule saying that freshmen aren’t allowed to park on campus due to the high amount of cars. is this true?? this is so not fair if it is. I need my car. It’s my life. :frowning: :frowning: :(

I thought freshman weren't allowed cars in the first place??

no parking would mean no car

this sucks. how am i supposed to go home?

how to get home: amtrak, greyhound, airport shuttles to the airport

It's true, freshmen can't buy parking permits. If you get creative you can park downtown in a parking garage. A friend I met sophmore year told me that's how she had a car freshman year. I don't know which parking garage or how much it cost.

(oh and another thing, don't think about having an upperclassman buy a parking permit for you... if you get caught, both the upperclassman & you get punished)

how would i go up to sac?

up to sac? Yolo county bus or taxi.

A taxi sounds pretty expensive for a trip into Sac.

You can buy passes on Amtrak (daily, 10 trips, monthly) and the station is located a short walk from campus in downtown. You can take this into old Sac which is walking distance to downtown area around the capitol (mall, lots of restaurants, clubs). It is also a great way to get to Berkeley or SF. They will drop you at 5 different locales in SF and you can get picked up at any of the Amtrak pick-up spots to get back to Davis.

UCD also runs a shuttle service to the med center for faculty, staff, students and patients that runs all day long (but stops by mid evening). You can then get to various parts of Sacramento by picking up light rail (but it might be a little hazardous in the evening).

Whenever I've needed to go up to Sac without driving I just took the Yolo Bus.. never occured to me to take amtrak but that'd also work. I have a car now though so I haven't needed to explore the wonders of public transportation too often

There is also a UCD - Berkeley shuttle for students that runs a couple times per day. A lot of people going home for the weekend in the Bay area use that shuttle.
