Looks like NCF will be allocated another $10M in funding from the state (on top of the $15M already allocated in this year’s budget). A significant amount will be allocated to student scholarships.

You know, I don’t think this changes things much for instate students. The Benaquisto scholarship is already available to NMF. Same with BF. At my kids’ hs, I don’t think anyone went to NCF, but certainly no one in the top 10% did. Most top 10% students get Bright Futures, which would be more than the $6000. there might be some who didn’t get BF, but very few.

So not stacking.

Things like the grandparent scholarship are state programs and the state sets the number available to each school.

I don’t think there is a big difference in the long run.

If a student qualifies for more than one scholarship, the student will receive the scholarship award with the larger dollar amount.

I believe this is only referencing the First year scholarships awarded by NCF. They would “stack” with Bright Futures. That’s the way it works at other state universities (like UCF) for first year merit based scholarships.

The exception may be the Pell Grant award, which states “Through gift aid from all sources: Pell plus any other grant, scholarship, or waiver”. This one likely does consider BF, Pell grants, etc., and then awards enough to cover any other tuition cost and fees, plus up to $9K for housing. This is a very nice scholarship for lower SES (socioeconomic status) students, especially ones that don’t earn a FAS Bright Futures scholarship.

Also, keep in mind that not all Florida high schools are equal. At some (especially rural) schools, some significant number of top 10% students don’t get the full BF scholarships (FAS) and may only qualify for FMS.

In addition, the Top 10% scholarship apply to out of state students. It reduces the OOS tuition of $29K down to $9K a year. Not bad for a LAC with a 6 to 1 student/faculty ratio.

$10,000 a year Presidential Honors Scholarship – up to $40,000 total over four years – if you choose to enroll in New College for the Fall 2023 semester. This $10,000 Presidential Honors Scholarship is in addition to any other scholarships or financial aid for which you qualify – up to the total cost of attendance.

This scholarship was recently implemented (which is why it’s not on the website). Clearly an effort to increase enrollment.

And for Transfer Students…

New College, which is part of the state’s network of 12 universities, also has an effort underway to recruit transfer students from state colleges. Through a program dubbed “NCF Transform,” New College is advertising additional scholarships for transfer students who meet certain criteria.

“The transition planning includes joint advising from both schools, a $3,500 per year renewing scholarship, and an academic pathway to complete a Bachelor of Arts degree in two years after transferring,” information on the New College website says.

From what I can tell, if you have a 3.00 to 4.00 GPA you earn a $3,000 scholarship, then another $500 if you come from a NCF Transform Partner Program College. Note Pell Grant Students still get the same scholarships as first year students, Full coverage of Tuition and Fees, On-Campus Room up to $9,000.

Also, it looks like some Transfer students could qualify for the new $10K a year scholarships.

This agreement will offer TCC honors students who complete their associate degree in arts guaranteed admission to New College of Florida and qualifies them for up to $10,000 for the Presidential Honors Scholar scholarship if they meet the agreement requirements and attend New College beginning in Fall 2023. Transfer students will be assigned their own faculty adviser and nationally certified career coach, as well as receive guaranteed scholarships, making New College a highly cost-effective option.
