First year writing course

I need your help guys.

So I went to my orientation and got my schedule.
I'm enrolled in ENGL1111, which is the regular college writing class.
Taking that one semester completes the requirement

However, I came to this country five years ago. I'm fluent with speaking, but my writing needs a lot of help.

I've struggled in high school with writing, especially those danged research papers.

So I'm considering taking ENGL1110 Intro Writing
That's basically a semester of "writing for dummies" kinda class.
HOWEVER, that does NOT satisfy the requirements, so next semester you gotta take ENGL1111 ANYWAYS.

So what should I do?

Take ENGL1111, WHATEVER?
or ENGL1110, get stronger, and take ENGL1111 when I'm more ready?

(Note: If you do well in ENGL1110, you may be exempt from ENGL1111)

It’s really about how safe you feel about your writing skills and the level you’re at in your writing. If you feel that taking the Intro Writing course will help you advance into ENG1111 or even that you’ll be exempt from ENG1111 then definitely take that. Also, if you feel that taking ENG1111 right away without any basics will cause you to get poor grades, then in consideration of your GPA I would take ENG1110

Also, do not forget that NEU has a Writing Center where you can receive additional assistance with your writing assignments.

Being able to write clearly and coherently is a necessity if you want to be successful, not only at school but also at jobs. I would suggest taking the more basic corse and then move on to ENGL1111. It’s not so much about getting the grades as it is improving your writing overall.
