I was wondering whether any people currently attending UCLA right now can give the first years some sort of recommended to-bring list to dorms, besides the general things of clothes/bedding/toiletries/computer/laptop?
are there some must-brings that people often forget?

btw do most people drive down with their stuff (do peole have a lot?) or do they take plane? if they go by plane, how do they get all their stuff to the dorm; considering that you can't bring that much going by plane?

Bring an umbrella for those occasional but sudden downpours during Winter quarter. Most people drive to UCLA... People coming to UCLA by plane usually bring their essentials (clothes, gadgets and laptop) in a suitcase, and then buy their perishables and school supplies upon arrival in Westwood.

This is stuff that I have found to be very useful in the dorms. Some of it may be a no-brainer but its usually the no-brainer stuff that gets left behind.

desk lamp
fan (if your in a high rise w/no a/c)
fridge (useful but not essential)
towells
laundry bag or hamper
your hobby (assuming you probably won't be studying 24/7)
disposable plates/utensils/cups (can be bought in westwood)
full-length mirror as most rooms do NOT have one
calculator
camera
posters
first-aid kit
medicine (cough syrup, cough drops, vitamin C, tylenol, allergy, or whatever you would most likely use if you were to get a cold)
bathroom rug if you live in a plaza (highly recommended)
plastic storage bags
something that you can use to dust with (the rooms get very dusty)
cleaning supplies i.e. windex wipes, disenfecting wipes, dish soap (if you bring non-disposable dishes,) and etc.
sewing kit
alarm clock
ethernet cord (not something you want to forget)
brita water filter pitcher w/extra filters (unless you really want to buy cases upon cases of water)
chair pillow (useful not necesary)

And de neve (or maybe it was just Birch) at least has wireless in each individual room, but I can't say for any of the other residence buildings

1)In the plaza/private bath, do they have cabinets where you can store your toiletries or I have to bring a cart?
2)Does each room has some sort of a board when you can hang poster, pictures, notes, etc. I know we are not supposed to hang to use push pin or tuck in the wall; How will full length mirror work if you are not allow to nail on the door;

3) Is a drying rack, overdoor rack necessary?

Living in a triple will need a lot creativity to organized your stuff in a small room.

1) Yes, the private bathrooms have medicine cabinets located behind the mirrors.
2) Yes, the dorms have canvas-covered cork bulletin-boards covering the entire wall. Push pins are allowed. The rooms already contain full-length mirrors, either on the doors or inside the closets.
3) No. Just use the dryers in the laundry room.
