Fish Camp '11

Oh my gosh!
So .. I signed up for Fish camp, and actually didn't know the activities. I youtube-ed Fish camp, and skids came out. is everyone forced to do a skid?
It's speech class all over again, nooooo!
Some encouragement?

Nothing to worry about. The skits are performed by the camp counselors. My son attended transfer camp a few years ago, loved it so much he is now a camp counselor this year.

I’m like you, I hated speech class or being in front of a lot of people but the skit isn’t bad. Of course there will be some DG’s who have people with quite outgoing personalities who will make pretty good and funny skits. Our DG was small (3 kids from our DG didn’t end up showing up) so we just went up there for like 30 seconds did a little skit and then were done, no big deal.

Just remember one thing about speeches: Most people won’t remember who you are or what you even talked about 2 minutes after you are done.

Hahaha, Thanks Guys, and TexaCo Mom for the support!
I’m alleviated to read all this

Did anyone who has already done Fish Camp feel like you were too tired to drive back home from College Station campus once you returned from camp? I noticed that they recommended that students check into a hotel and spend the night to rest up in College Station if they were driving their own cars home (left there in designated parking lots) OR have someone from home come to pick them up and drive them home.
We’re trying to decide how to handle that and would be interested in hearing how tired your really were after the Camp. Up to a 3 hour drive?

Carolein,

A few weeks back, I made a 3 hour drive down to College Station. I was freshly out of bed, everything was perfect! I loved the drive. I arrived at 12 pm, and stayed there walking around the TAMU campus, blinn college, and a restaurant! When it was time to leave, I felt very tired. I left by 5-6pm . After an hour of driving, I had to cease the steering wheel to my co-pilot. I did not only felt tired, but VERY SLEEPY.Music did not help at all. I slept the 2 hours that were left.

The continuous highway driving just makes you sleepy if you had a long day. I STRONGLY suggest you to stay in college station. No kidding. Even if you take a nap, I also don’t recommend driving during the night.
I made my apartment move in a day before the Fish Camp session to avoid a second round trip to college station. This is from a 18 year old guy.

We only have a two hour drive but as a parent I was concerned about my daughter and/or friends making the drive. You are very tired when you arrive back from camp. We carpooled with a few people having one parent drop off and I picked them up. The first thing we did was eat on the way out of town. They talked the entire dinner about all the fun things they did and the people they met. Once in the car on the road they were all asleep withing 10 minutes. I suggest get a parent to do the driving or stay the night with a friend.

Thanks, Affodil and Aggie Mom. I’m glad to hear what I already expected…have been emailing another parent this morning about getting the rides worked out. With it being two boys, I know they want the independence, but they will have that soon enough.

Carolein, You are totally right. Judging by my son’s FC last year they come home in no shape to do anything but sleep! This year my son is a counselor (session F) and he’s already arranged to stay over in CS that day they get back. You’re right to be concerned!
