Fisher v. Texas

For those who like to debate such things-
<a href="http://www.nytimes.com/2012/02/22/us/justices-to-hear-case-on-affirmative-action-in-higher-education.html?hp%5B/url%5D">http://www.nytimes.com/2012/02/22/us/justices-to-hear-case-on-affirmative-action-in-higher-education.html?hp</a></p>

Looks like Kagan will be recusing herself.

Looks like racism will finally be out in college admissions.

Here are the “good” folks behind that battle.

[Project on Fair Representation](http://www.projectonfairrepresentation.org/)

How easy it is to throw that word around!

Racism:
“The belief that all members of each race possess characteristics or abilities specific to that race, esp. so as to distinguish it as inferior or superior to another race or races.”

The first half of the definition of racism is virtually identical to colleges’ reasoning for affirmative action programs. The second half of the definition is apparent in admissions results.

While looking up summer research opportunities, it was shocking to see so many that basically said “whites and Asians need not apply”. They were at state supported schools but were only for blacks and Hispanics.

I hope that after this case such discrimination will be outlawed once and for all.

Correction. How easy it is to throw words such as racism and discrimination around!

Out of curiosity, may I ask you if you have read a single word of the Fisher case? Or have any understanding how the admission policies at UT-Austin work?

It’s probably best to redirect discussion of this ever-controversial issue over to the FAQ thread in the College Admissions Forum

where there are several links to news stories about the Supreme Court decision to review the case arising in Texas, and FAQ posts at the beginning of the thread that link to federal regulations and statistics from various colleges.
