Fiske and/or parent business college recommendations

Hello,
My son wants to go to our state flagship, University of Maryland, but we are compiling our list of other realistic options. Does anyone happen to have the list Fiske recommends? Or have other recommendations that are similar to UMD where he might stand to get merit money? He wants a medium to large school and he doesn't want a warm climate. Right now we are thinking Indiana University and Ohio State, because they have strong business schools and it looks like he could get merit money. His stats are 3.9+ weighted GPA, but more like 3.3 unweighted, 1390 CR/Math SA, and average ECs.
Penn State, Pitt or Syracuse would be great for him, but I don't think he'd get merit money.
He will likely apply to a couple of other in-state schools also.

Thanks

Thank you. Do you happen to know if they consider weighted or only unweighted gpa?

I am not sure. You could probably call the admissions department to find out. If you visit Ohio to see Ohio State stop and visit Miami as well. Beautiful campus - way different than Ohio State. Both of my kids applied and were accepted to both schools but both preferred Miami. We felt in our visits that Ohio State was too large and much focus was spent on graduate students. The kids felt more like a number at Ohio State. Ohio State didn’t even put my 3.9 35 ACT daughter in their Honors program since she wasn’t in the top 10% of her class. It wasn’t until the last week in April, long after her college decisions had been made, they sent a letter inviting her to the honors program. She may have given it more consideration had they offered her the Honors program right off the bat with it being our State Flagship. That said, we have many friends who go there and love Ohio State. I think with a visit your son will feel which school would be the right fit for him.

Thanks. I’ve read good things about Farmer. I’ll bring it up to my son again.

Miami Ohio came on our radar this year for my current Sr due to Farmer’s high ranking and the guaranteed merit. The more we looked and researched the more he liked it. The merit program is new within the last couple of years. He’s OOS and qualifies for “half to full tuition” depending on holistic review, but the half is guaranteed based on gpa/sat matrix. It makes the school (only 15k students) an attractive option.

I just reread the question above. My son contacted his regional rep over the summer regarding gpa used and received the following (note, his question also asked if they only calculated using core academic classes):

In the same area as Miami, U of Dayton. Private Marianist college with good B school and assured merit aid.
My friend’s daughter was in a similar situation. She is at UMD now, but loved Ohio and also applied to Northeastern.

Northeastern is a school we are looking at also. I don’t think my son would get as much merit aid there though, and I think it’s getting tougher to get into.
