I think I spent more time outside than inside today! Ending the day with nearly 12 miles of steps on my Fitbit - pretty good for March in northern Ohio! 61 degrees. I did my morning wake up walk, ran 5k + a bit, walked another 3 miles with D2 and did some yard work.
I’d do it all in a heartbeat again tomorrow if the weather repeated and I didn’t have to work!
Wow, everyone is kicking some behind out there! Congrats!
Well, I finally gave that intercostal muscle a good testing Friday and Saturday. And everything seems good. I consider myself extremely fortunate. I escaped with minimal impact to my exercise regimen. I read that the recovery from a strain of this rib muscle could take anywhere from 2-6 weeks or more.
Today, is typically a rest or recovery day, but since I took a complete day off last Thursday, I wanted to just catch up with some bench press, treadmill running of 30 minutes interspersed with overhead DB lunges and weighted sit-ups.
I got all my Apple Watch rings closed two days in a row, which isn’t easy with this stress fracture. Got 17000 steps for the first time since I was grounded.
I spent the weekend on my feet doing household jobs, only one actual workout. A lot of ironing and power washing. I need to get a chance to go for an actual walk or do more of an actual workout. I don’t think the weigh in this week is going to be great but as long as the overall trend stays similar.
I did some treadmill walking and elliptical yesterday but don’t want to overdo it with the knee healing. Nothing yet today. It’s raining again and might be a good day to go light on the knee.
A good place to remind and recommend people to pull away from the news/tv/social media and all the politics and Corona news and literally walk, bike, run, stretch away for 30 minutes!!!
That other thread is too fast moving. But to capitalize on the point made by @abasket, I’ll post an opinion piece from an MD on CNN about the Coronavirus and exercise:
I need to live IRL… In my day to day life, you hardly hear about coronavirus at all. Get online? You can’t escape it. Of course, we aren’t exactly a hotbed of international travel, lol.
I’m taking this week off of upper body work to rest the shoulder/collarbone. The collarbone seems better, but I still get occasional tightness/aches in my traps/delts, so something must be compensating. The plan is MWF => longer cardio plus abs. TH => regular cardio plus leg/glute work. Thus, this morning I did a strong (but easy) 35 min hilly run followed by strong 35 min stairmonster session, followed by a 50 min leg workout video. Tomorrow will be a combo of run/stairmonster/bike for maybe 1:30-2:00 and abs. We’ll see how long I last.
And thanks to @MomofWildChild for the sports bra review on the Cheap thread! I always buy cheap stuff, but I was in the lookout for a new sports bra. It arrived today and I’ll try it out tommorow. Yay for new stuff!
I had a really strong morning. I’m not sure where these good aerobic workouts have come from, but I will take it. Maybe it was the new sports bra. I ran for 70 minutes with most of it on our flat paved trail. Those 8.3 miles I ran in 58 minutes. That was a CR, though I’ve only run that exact route for maybe 2 years. Then I hopped on the bike for 45 more minutes. It was decently strong and good enough considering my rear end is so sore from lifting legs yesterday. Then I did a 15 min ab video that was my first mini-test of the shoulder, as half of the exercises are in a low plank. It seemed fine, but we will see later.
Boy, that’s really fast! Glad you are feeling great!
32 minutes over on the clubhouse elliptical. I get my HR up a lot higher on the elliptical without the arms, for some reason, and my stride turnover (or whatever it is) is faster. HR on elliptical is a lot higher than walking.
Thanks! For many years, my mid-week bread and butter run was a 10-12 miler on the TM. 1 mile w/u and then the rest at ~8.9-9.0mph. My c/d would be walking around the gym doing my leg strengthening work. My biggest weakness in races was always my head. I rarely raced as well as I should have, and now age is catching up. But, it was nice to be in the ballpark at least one more time in my life. I won’t take that run for granted for sure! I even passed a group of 3 guy runners on the way back. I think that’s 3 more than I’ve seen all year. They had a solid 2 min headstart when I saw them – and I caught them within a mile. Nope. That didn’t make me feel good at all… heh
@MomofWildChild I like trying to keep a fast turnover on XT because I think it helps with my running turnover. I’m a loper by nature. But the elliptical I never could get the hang of, so I stick to other machine. My hat is off to you. You’ve been very good with this layoff.
I went to a yoga flow class today (it’s a heated class—90 degrees). It was not as crowded as usual. Both of the studios where I practice now require folks to bring their own props (mat, bolster, blanket, blocks, straps, etc). I always bring my own mat and wipe it down, but I do use the bolster for some poses. I brought a beach towel and that worked well as a bolster substitute.
@ClassicMom98 Well, I haven’t been THAT good since I’m really not supposed to be doing ANYTHING. I really won’t know if I’ve done too much until they re-check me in 2 weeks. I’ve tried to be careful, but I haven’t really obeyed orders…
I had an irregular day yesterday. Had to rush out of the house to make it to a meeting where my bosses did not exactly leave me with a warm feeling!
I was snacking instead of eating meals. Probably a little dehydrated (pee doesn’t lie!).
I was upset about the meeting, upset about one of my kids, upset about the future and… I could not hit my weights yesterday.
I’m glad I didn’t skip training, but wow — I just could not complete the reps at the prescribed weights. I shifted to back-off sets & got some volume in.
It was a stark reminder about what goes on outside of the gym really affects what goes on inside the gym.
I’m expecting back-offs today too due to poor sleep. My mind was racing out of control last night.
This is a time of SUCH stress and anxiety! I was thinking this morning how much I appreciated @abasket 's reminder yesterday to take care of ourselves and use our exercise time to escape some of the chaos. I REALLY miss my outdoor runs where I just listen to music- or nothing. I need to stop watching the news while I’m on the indoor equipment.
I have been thinking… if this “new plague on the block” does not send a swift kick in the pants of some to stop smoking and to begin exercising and taking care of themselves, NOTHING will.
We have been diligently using our trail for evening walks, and I noticed that both Mr. and I have been sleeping well. Nothing calms the nerves better than an hour of fresh air exposure before bedtime! My dumbbells have been seeing more action, too.
