Hello all, I am interested and am going to major in Business, however I also am interested in completing all pre-med requirements so that I can go into medical school with a business degree; is this doable and if so, how difficult would it be? Also, could I do it within four years of undergrad study?
I’m not 100% sure but Pre-Med is very rigorous and there is tons of memorization, homework, studying, essays and tests required. Business also is the major that takes the second longest to complete and is not easy either. It is definetly doable but you need to be prepared to give up a bit of your social life to pursue this. Four years I believe is possible but I think it would most likely take about 5.
Med schools want you to pick a major for you, not them. If a Business major is your thing, go for it. You are far from unique in wanting to pursue a major other than the usual bio major. Understand that some of the premed reqs are year long sequences which could create scheduling problems (ie trying to fit your major and GE reqs in among these sequences.) Also understand the science lab reqs although often only one unit can be incredibly time consuming. Somewhere you’re going to have to find time to prep for MCAT. Somewhere you’re going to have to find time to get involved in ECs that med schools will expect to see on your app. Somehow you’re going to have to maintain a competitive overall GPA and a competitive science GPA as each is calculated and shown separately on a med school app. (Science GPA refers to all grades in bio, chem, physics and math courses). Somewhere you’re going to have to find time to have a college life. Realize that if your GPAs suffer, med schools will have little, if any, sympathy about how rigorous your schedule is. You picked it, not them. So is it doable? Many have done so and gained admission after 4 years of college. Some need more time. Most who start with premed intent never see the inside of a med school. Only you can answer if you can do it. Good luck.
It’s difficult to answer this question without context; it depends on the college and how tight the business sequence is.
If you’re already at college, this is a question to ask your academic advisor.
Ok thanks ya’ll. To further expand on the question, I’m a senior in highschool and my top three choices of colleges are: UPenn, Cornell and BU
It appears that it is possible, but difficult, to fit the pre-med requirements around the business curriculum at Wharton. Found a couple of Internet posts from current Wharton students who were trying it.
Cornell explicitly says that applied economics and management majors in their Dyson school are also located within the CALS, so you can be pre-med there or even double-major in a life science. They also have an undergraduate business major specifically for life sciences majors.

BU doesn’t address this specifically on their website, but they do say that business majors can pursue a dual degree in another major or pursue a minor. If that’s possible then doing the pre-med coursework is probably also possible.
