Hi guys!
So I got accepted at UM and FIU Honors College and wait listed at 3 other schools that I would really like to go to (GW, NYU, and UChicago). However, I know that the chances of me getting admitted into these schools after being wait listed is very small… So that leaves me with only two options- UM or FIU Honors College.
Now, I want to study Anthropology and I am also thinking about getting a minor in Intl Relations and French (or maybe getting a certificate in French). I am thinking of becoming a journalist or working for a newspaper (ex: NY Times) or working for an NGO or for the government or something along those lines.
Both schools are very good, even though I think FIU is considered a Tier 4 school and it’s a relatively newer school/program. Nevertheless, I keep hearing that they have a very good Intl Relations/PoliSci Department. Additionally, being in the FIU Honors Program means I would have to stay in a dorm (believe it or not, it is appealing to me) and with the FinAid they are offering, my parents would have to pay about $2,000 out of pocket per year (meaning less debt for me in the long-run).
Now, UM seems to have a better Anthro program and it also has the “prestige” thing going on. But they are more expensive and they’re only offering to help with about half of my tuition (including loans). Plus I would live at home since dorming there is way too expensive (which is okay since I might move closer to the school, but I don’t get that real-deal college experience).
I know that my college experience (and life, for that matter) is what I make of it… But I still have to choose between one two. Both schools are pretty diverse, have good study abroad programs, seem to have a friendly/active student body and extracurriculars that I would love to participate in.
I will be going to each school’s open house to get a better feel on them. Nevertheless, the choice is tough.
So who would be better for me and my future: Canes or Panthers?
If anyone can give me some guidance/an opinion, it would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks!
