Hi, I am currently a college student located on the west coast and currently looking into transferring. My school is cutting my program and I plan on going back to the east coast, but not home. I have applied to Florida International University, and plan on applying to Virginia Tech, Old Dominion, and University of Central Florida. My question is does anyone know the criteria for transfer students for FIU?
In HS I had a 2.8 GPA and was a athlete all four years (Football and Baseball) and was in a few clubs and helped kids after school with school work.
I came to college my first year I had above a 2.7 GPA and my first semester of my second year I fell do to a class in which dropped me down to a 2.47-2.5 GPA. This semester my GPA is expecting to rise, because I am studying and working hard.

My question is, would I be accepted into FIU with a GPA that is just about 2.5 or will I be turned down? From what I heard FIU is not a hard school to get into seeing how I have a friend who got in with a 2.7 and had a 2.4 in HS. I am a little bit worried, though I have not had any trouble when it came to apply and getting accepted. Can someone tell me if I have a good chance of getting in, or is it a no go?

I would like a serious response cause this is my future and FIU is some where I want to be. Also does being Hispanic have a role in admission because I am Hispanic. Please let me know what's going on and where do I stand on admissions. Thank you

You might get in, you might not. I know a few schools in FL that you would have a better chance in, if you’re FL resident. Try FAU or FGCU.

FIU does seem to favor Hispanics, so who knows.

FGCU might have a shot too but you very likely won’t be accepted as a transfer student at FAU unless you have a 2.5, and that’s just barely at the line during a time of explosive growth (we’ve gotten 200% of the applications we got last year)

"Transferring with fewer than 60 credits:
- Applicants should present a cumulative GPA of 2.5 or higher (4.0=A) on all attempted college work."

Good luck to you with FIU!

I do have less that 60 credits and I have damn near a 2.5, I saw FAU so I would have a good chance. I am really pulling for FIU and I am hispanic. I am out a out of state resident however.

I am looking at FAU right now.

By the end of this semester though, I do expect my grades to be higher and my GPA to rise seeing how I am doing well in my classes right now, so yeah, but my chances at FIU are 50/50 or less than that?

Im at FIU. Back when i started i got accepted right out of highschool with a 2.03 and a 1080 on my SATs. Perhaps because I was local, perhaps because i had a recommendation from a professor there, perhapd because she knew the dean. Maybe I wrote a kick ass essay?

From what i hear, FIU is very difficult to get into now. Its very mechanistic. There are over 35000 students, so staff doesnt pay much attention to detail. You need to be very independent there. Huffington post also ranked us as one of the schools with the toughest grading. You need to make you application really pop. I dont see why you should be rejected, but you may. My friend got rejected from their school of journalism as a transfer, but got accepted at barry university in north miami.

I think its a great school. Good luck.

Oh yea, and she also got accepted to NYU. Strange to hear, but she did. Had something to do with her highschook transcripts or sat scores. Which were from 10 years ago? I dont know…
