Does anyone know if CMC, Pomona, Scripps, harvey mudd, and pitzer take transfers among themselves? If that's the case, would it be easier to apply for pitzer or scripps, get in, and then transfer to CMC or HM? Someone tell be if this is totally wrong.

Yes, the schools DO accept transfers between themselves. I've heard mixed reports...some sources say that it's harder, some say it's easier.

i've been told by current students that it's reallllllly easy to transfer between the 5 Cs. I couldn't figure out which I liked more (Pomona or Claremont) or which was a better fit, so I definitely was concerned about that option.

Sorry, my other post was very rushed so I didn't elaborate at all!

Though transfers do happen, it's also worth noting that a lot of people who aren't necessarily thrilled with their home school don't even bother transferring. It depends a lot about where your concerns lie...are they with subject matter/course of study? If so, have you already gotten most of the annoying GEs out of the way? Example, if you're at Mudd and decide you want to be an English major but you've already taken frosh chem, soph physics, blah, blah, blah, you may as well just stick it out. If you'll be wasting a lot of time on such requirements, though, and you change your mind early on, it makes sense to transfer. If it's more the atmosphere that concerns you, then you can try to do a housing swap. I know a girl who loves Scripps but disliked the residential life, so did a swap to Mudd and now has the best of all worlds. I also know someone who decided to major at Pomona and had lots of classes waaaaay on the other side of the campus, but didn't feel any need to leave Scripps. She also did a housing swap, and is living and majoring on Pomona, but without the hassle of an official transfer (her diploma will, however, say Scripps). I also just know people who go to one school but have their social circles largely at other schools, or have circles of friends that aren't specific to any single school, but are from their major or an extra-curricular. On the other hand, I know people who have left Claremont knowing that they might have enjoyed another school on the consortium, but didn't want to do a 5C transfer. A friend of mine left CMC knowing he might have been happier at Pomona, but he thought it would feel awkward to leave his friends for such a nearby scene.

Point is, it's totally up to the indivdual and the situation. Transfers do happen, but one nice thing about Claremont is that there are a lot of ways to get around the hassle (although certainly try to pick the best fit at the outset, to avoid the whole issue in the first place, if possible)!

Just to name a few concrete examples, I know a Scripps sophomore doing a housing swap to Pitzer, a Scripps junior who did a housing swap to Mudd, a Scripps junior who did a housing swap to Pomona, and a Mudd junior who transferred to Pitzer.

Since a lot of GE requirements have to be fulfilled during freshman year, and different schools have differing requirements based on what has to be fulfilled for transfers, I'd recommend doing some research on that topic. For example, Pitzer has the most flexible scheduling, so if you wound up there and decided you wanted to transfer, you'd have the most freedom to start getting another school's requirements out of the way instead of being bogged down by requirements of a school you were leaving. That was kind of a muddled description, but hopefully it made some sense.

Good luck, wherever you end up!
