Fixing Core Class Times

I have Lit Hum from 6:10-8pm. D: Fck that.

Can I somehow get another time? What if I find someone who wants to switch with me (maybe, just maybe)? Of all the classes I'm considering taking, none conflict...

Thanks.

cartelle don’t be lame. evening classes are the best (honestly).
but do what you are going to do. don’t worry i’ve already judged you.

re: actual process, you have to appeal to change sections. talk to your advising dean about it. they do some work to try and create a class that is balanced based on students interests and where they come from, which is why you don’t really get to elect either your professor or your fellow students.

what your argument is? whatever you want - though i especially want to see you try the getting someone to switch with you one. that one sounds so crazy, but it just might work.

in the end, if you want to have a decent education these next 4 years. learn to be flexible, and above all things - grow up.

Well, I’m an idiot. I didn’t know that they try to balance classes…I still have trouble believing that evening classes are the best (esp b/c I’m more of a morning person - I might be able to coerce someone w/ a 9AM class into switching w/ me haha), but I’ll suck it up, I suppose.

I have another question. There are 2 sections of the math class I’d like to take: the first turns my schedule into a classes marathon M/W; the second conflicts w/ my FoS discussion. Which am I most likely to end up with?
My guess is the nightmare?

not sure if this will work - you can try to find a class that is held only at the same time you have lit hum (doesn’t matter whether you actually plan to take it). register for it, then appeal to change your lit hum section because of your “conflict”. drop the class when things are settled.

You can change your Core sections when you register for your other classes. You don’t have to go through the Core Office. Just select your class and then click the button at the bottom of the screen that says “Search for Other Sections” (or something like that). If there are any other open Lit Hum sections, you’ll have the option of switching. But whatever you do, don’t drop your section, since you might not be able to get back in if you need to.

Also, keep in mind that later sections are more likely to be taught by actual professors instead of grad students (not that grad students can’t make good instructors). 6-8 pm might be a bad time slot, but you could end up with an awesome section. Make sure to CULPA your instructor before making a decision to switch sections.

I know I’m bringing up an old thread, but is it really true that you can change sections for core classes without going through the petition process?

Because we got a form that to change sections of lit hum/frontiers of science/university writing, we must petition in person.

I’m not sure, you can do it for other core classes, I just don’t know about lit hum.

You can try to do it when you register (there’s a little button that let’s you look for other sections, well I think it’s “change section”), the only thing is that all the lit hum classes are probably full, that is why this won’t work. If there is an opening I’m pretty sure you can change classes no problem, there just won’t be that opening.

Unless the policy has changed, you have to petition to change preregistered classes and you can only do that if you can show your section conflicts with another class that is essential for you to take…unless you are taking like freshman orgo or phys 2100 or something similar, I don’t know many people who were successful in changing…

Personally, I hated evening classes. I had UW at like 6pm freshman year and it was horrible. No one wanted to be there, you either ate dinner really early or really late, paying attention was harder since I was already thinking about other work that needed to be done, etc. Some people may like them but I don’t think that’s a majority opinion.

Anyone know if this is actually true or just speculation?

skyraylor - speculation.

profs teach usually at 11, 1:10, 2:40 and some at 4:10. night classes go to junior faculty, adjuncts and grad students. does not mean you wont get a full professor, it is just less likely.
