Fixing your personal essay inquiry.

I have already sent in my first common application to the first college I applied at, but I was wondering since I completed the application on the first college I applied for, does it not let you reedidt or fix your 250-500 word personal essay on other colleges you are planning on applying too? I wanted to edit the one thats already up so I can fix somethings I never got to the first time around. I hope it will let me fix it. I'm freaking out about this.

You cannot change the submitted application.

But you can actually create an alternate version of the Common App, which allows you to edit the essay.

https://www.commonapp.org/application/applicantlogin.aspx?allowcopy=true

Go to this link and login with your existing username and password. You will be presented with a screen titled ‘Application Versions’, where you will see information about the application that you’ve already submitted. You may then click on the ‘Replicate’ link to make an alternate version of your submitted application. When this is complete, a second version will be visible on this screen and a special drop down will appear in the upper right corner of the application to allow quick access to all your applications.

This special weblink is needed only the first time you make an alternate version. Thereafter, you should return to the standard Common Application login screen, found at www.commonapp.org, and login as normal.

All data from your original version of your Common Application will be transferred. However, any uploads you’ve done (personal essay or additional information) will not be transferred. You just re-upload these in any alternate version.

Good Luck!

You can create upto 10 alternate versions, but I hope you don’t! :p

cannnnnnnnnnnot change

^^cannot change?? Please do not offer advice if you are not sure about it. In fact, you can change your essays/any uploads entirely in the alternate versions of the Common App.
