FL Bright Futures Scholarship Question

[cross-posting from the UF section, since it doesn’t seem too active.]

Hey everyone, I’m asking this question for a friend of mine who just finished up their freshman year at UF.

They finished the year with a >3.0 GPA, and had to drop a course past the add/drop period (taking a W). They’re on the Bright Futures (BF) Scholarship, so they had to pay the money from the dropped course back, but due to a miscommunication with their parents the funds (couple hundred dollars) weren’t sent until today (May 15th). On May 11th, they got an email from BF telling them their scholarship renewal application was denied because they hadn’t paid for the course they dropped.

They’re calling on Monday (18th) (tried calling today, but the offices were closed by the time they read the email), but want to know if they have a shot at maintaining their BF scholarship. Can anyone who has any experience with BF chime in?

Any help you could give would be extremely appreciated! My friend’s distraught. It’ll be hard for them to finance undergrad without the BF money.

I’ve found the BF people to be fairly reasonable. A friend’s son lost his because he dropped below 12 credits and they reinstated it. Of course, this kid did it again, or didn’t get the required gpa and lost it again. The second time, it was gone for good.
