FL Schools that offer large NM money?

I've tried searching every way I can think of without much luck. It seems to me that the only way to find out which FL Universities offer large NM scholarships is to go to each and every school website. Unfortunately, even then, it's very hard to find on some of the websites and I'm afraid I may be missing it.

Yes, I've seen the thread on here but it's hard for me to find the info I'm looking for which is specifically FL schools and I'm not sure they're all listed in that thread either.

Is there a source somewhere which publishes a list? Something official, rather than anecdotal?

thank you so much!

Wow that is a great deal if you name them first choice—I pray they still are commited to such a great deal when my son is ready to take the psat in a couple years.

Congrats to your sister usfsister!

*Sorry, I accidentally deleted my original post. I was just trying to correct my name from usfsister to ucfsister. I made a typo when registering.

I do not know about the other Florida schools for sure but I will copy and paste the official National Merit Incentive Package Letter for 2011 from UCF. This is not something you can find on the school’s website. This was sent to us by one of the people in their National Merit Office.

Sorry for the long post, but this is an amazing opportunity to any National Merit Finalist, not just Florida students. Also in case you did not catch it, the scholarship amount for a finalist who names UCF as top choice is guaranteed a scholarship of $16,000 per year on top of Bright Futures and all other scholarships. This is where my sister has decided to go and has already be accepted and has named them as her first choice. If you have any questions about this, feel free to post back or message me.

Is there a reason that you’re only looking a Florida NMF scholarships? There are others that give big NMF scholarships.

UCF has already been mentioned. UF gives a substantial amount (plus benefits like honors and early registration), as does New College of Florida (don’t know if they have benefits).

University of South Florida:

Fl. resident, http://usfweb2.usf.edu/Admissions/pdf/freshman-florida.pdf

non-Fl. resident, http://usfweb2.usf.edu/Admissions/pdf/freshman-Non-florida.pdf

There are several reasons I’m just looking in FL.

My son really doesn’t want to go far from home
We have the FL prepaid for tuition
The Bright futures.

All of those reasons come into play.

He’s only in 9th grade and hasn’t even taken the PSAT but I’m sure he’ll do well so I figured I’d start narrowing down some ideas for him to look at, especially as he chooses his classes for the coming years in hs.

Also, we’re looking for schools that have a GIS minor or certificate program to go with a major in something computer related.

So, if we could find schools in FL, with decent merit money combined with his choice of majors we’d be all set.

Well, your son may change his mind about where he wants to go to college and what major he wants in 3 years (I know I did, in 1/2 a year). If he actually does become a NMSF/NMF, then there would be a range of options, many of which would actually be cheaper than a Florida public school on Bright Futures. There are a lot of schools out there that offer full rides.

But your son is in 9th grade, so it’s a little early for all of this. To see how well he does on the PSAT, have him take it in 10th grade (won’t count for NM and will give an assessment on where to improve).
