We got our flag from a friend that is a member of the state legislature. Check your state website and see what can be done. I'm sure there are a multitude of websites that sell flags as well.

My understanding is that they will be hanging each state flag (representative of all P/Cs) represented across the grinder as a step toward recognition.

Hubbie says 3x5. They also hang the flags outside of their rooms. Can't believe your Rep wouldn't send one KP10'smom. I mean geez! Your kid is representing his state after all. Mean people..... Perhaps get on www.amazon.com & do a search on your state flag & have one sent directly to him from there. I guess we were lucky. Our Rep had our state flag flown over the capital building on July 9th, the day our kid went in to the academy. Came with a certificate so it meant alot to him when we'd sent it. Let me know if you have trouble finding one. I'll help if I can.

KP10sMOM, go here for a 3 X 5 Washington State flag for $13.00 for polyester or $51.00 for nylon plus S/H. Polyester will hold up okay indoors in the barracks hall outside KP10's room although nylon is probably what they fly over the capitol building in Olympia when they are feeling more generous towards the midshipmen who are representing their state with such distinction.

kp10mom...did you go the the person that nominated your son...maybe they can help. all the kids from out state got them through the parents association

Thanks for adding fuel to the fire ggspin. LOL Now lets all load up & go to WA & get that flag! LOL

Seriously, 99.9% would probably agree that it should have been given to you KP10. Somebody dropped the ball I think. Leave it to adults to mess good things up. :)

Oh what is really funny is I did end up buying one, but for whatever reason both Washington state and Oregon state have to pay more for their flags than all of the other states!!

And Texas' flag is only 15 bucks.

I suppose the folks in Texas buy a whole lot more state flags than the folks in Washington.

Val

PS my son, don't call people stuipid on line, you might need them someday. LOL

KP10'smom, could be the rare green $$ dye.

KP, nevermind Mom. I've learned from experience that the longer you guys are there, the more grumpy you become. Speaking of which. Where are my favorite grumps, Davy & USMMA09 lately? Probably finding puppies to kick. ;)

Told ya. Just wait until they go back after Xmas break. You'll need to find a translator for the new words they come up. They say things that the saltiest sailor would blush at. I just cherish my memories of my sweet little boy sitting quitely reading Harry Potter. He was so sweet. Any sweet he had left got knocked out of him in Hong Kong. There are just some descriptions of places & people that dear old Mom could live without. And around Xmas break, remember what I told you guys. They remove their funny bones during Indoc to make way for the AC year. Nothing is funny anymore. ;)

Don't sweat the state flag thing too much. We are from New York, which also has a bland looking flag. Our son never bothered to get one. He did, however, want to show his solidarity with the people of Taiwan in their effort to gain independence from the People's Republic of China. On his second sea year he borrowed the ship's bicycle in Kao-hsiung, Taiwan, and went on a merry chase to track down a Taiwanese flag. He displayed that on his door during his first class year.

to heck with state/country flags, personally I think any übercool “merchy” upperclassman fresh from sea would be displaying a shipping company “house flag”. Generally you can get at least a used and maybe a bit threadbare one on most ships. Sometimes you may even be able to score a brand new one from the “Mate” if you are a hard working “squared away” deck cadet..
