I wanted to share with everyone out there a college I recently came across down here in Florida that is a hidden gem----Flagler College. There is little if anything about it on College Confidential. I think that for some of the kids on CC, it deserves further examination.

It is located in St Augustine, which is a beautiful spot.

While it is a private college, for some reason, it has very low tuition. You would expect the tuition to be like that of an expensive LAC.

I fell in love with the school when I was sight-seeing in St Augustine.

The college is in an old, restored, luxury hotel, built in the 1920s.

The kid's eat their meals in the dining room of the old hotel.

It has a bit of a conservative bent--for example, boys can't enter the girl's dorms.

Academically, it is probably just average, but I would say that it is equal to or better than some lower ranked state universities.

And for you guys out there, there is a big female/male imbalance, in your favor.

And St Augustine is a very nice place.

So if you are just a B student, and don't have particularly high standardized test scores, Flagler College, in my opinion, is worthy of checking out. And if you are not a Floridian, they would probably like you, to increase their "geographic diversity". My son is over-qualified for it, because he got high SAT scores, but 49% of me wishes he wasn't, because I would think it would be a great place for a kid to go to school.

To me, it really is a hidden gem, especially for those kids not qualified to attend many of the lofty schools that get the most attention on College Confidential.
