Flat Feet

I have flat feet, is that disqualifying?

as long as it hasn't caused other problems such as scrolliois ( i know i spelt that wrong) or other problems, I believe it's fine, but double check with the DODMERB website. I know that back in the day, flat feet was a disqualifying factor, but now I think they don't care. but I'm only speculating, check the DODMERB website they list everything

i've been looking all ove rthe internet and their website but I just can't find their qualifications.

these are the medical qualifications as of July 2004. it's really long but look through it

Thanks a lot!

Flat feet or "pes planus" is automatically disqualifying. Do you wear orthotics? You're going to have to get a waiver, I don't know how tough it is at West Point to get one for this condition.

No I do not wear orthotics (nor do I know what they are lol). Would this really be a problem. I'm on the track team and I've run upwards of 11 miles a day before with no pain in my feet. Ahh, this sucks.

EDIT:

What can I do? Who can I ask? Thanks.

physical ability has nothing to do with it. b/c I know a few people who are now division I athletes who were DODMERB disqualified.

Hopefully, you are a junior, and if you are, get your DODMERB done ASPA, b/c the waiver process is a legthy one

but, if you were never offically diagnosed with it, (as in a doctor stated you had flat feet, and it's on your record) then on the medical history sheets, just don't list it. that will probably be the best way.

Orthotics are supports worn in shoes to make up for the lack of arch for people with flat feet.

How do you know that you have flat feet?

As I understand it you have to be symptomatic for pes planus to be disqualifying, in other words, you have to have had a medical complaint arising from your condition. If you've never been treated for foot or calf pain or shin splints and don't wear orthotics I don't think Dodmerb will disqualify you.

My daughter is going through the waiver process now at USNA. She was diagnosed with pes planus so there's no way around it with Dodmerb but she's put together letters from all her coaches detailing her athletic training and conditioning regimen and stating she has never been limited in her training or performance by the condition (she's varsity captain and all- conference in both sports she competes in).

I'll let you know how the waiver process goes, but hopefully you'll never have to go through it!
