I have the One Card Plus. If I go to Jamba Juice in the bottom of Lenoir, how do I use my flex money to pay for a smoothie? Will I be asked if I want to use my debit, expense, or flex to pay? I've put money in all three areas, but I don't want to use up my laundry money (expense) on Chik-fil-A or something, haha. Thanks to anyone who can help! This money stuff is so confusing, lol. : )

I think you wiill find that if you use the One Card in the bottom of Lenoir your flex account will be charged automatically if this account has available credit. If there is no credit in the flex account, the expense account will be charged.

That's awesome! Thank you! : )

do you have to have the one card with wachovia to use flex?

"do you have to have the one card with wachovia to use flex?"

No, you simply add money to the flex account. As the "flex" money is limited to food purchases, I would not add too much until you see what you are likely to use, which will vary depending on your eating habits. You can always add more if needed (in $50 increments, I believe). Any "flex" money remaining at the end of the academic year will be lost.

Can you use flex to buy goodies at the student store and rams head market (ie granola bars, chips, fruit, etc that u might keep in your dorm as snack food?)

From the UNC site:

"Dining Flex are dollars that you add to your meal plan to provide the flexibility to use food services besides Rams Head Dining Hall & Top of Lenoir. They can be used at any campus food service location - the retail food services on Lenoir Mainstreet such as Chick-fil-A, Burger King and Subway; Rams Head Market - full service grocery store; The End Zone - sports cafe with big-screen TV's and video games; Common Grounds coffee shop in the Johnston Center, Atrium, ACC, Law Bar and Blue Ram snack bars, as well as, late night delivery from Domino's, Papa John's and 24 restaurants participating in Tar Heel Takeout Express Dining Flex can be added throughout the semester in increments of $100. When adding Dining Flex, you must do so on-line and the amount is charged to your student account."

There appears a discrepancy in whether money can be added in $50 or $100 increments. Both amount are mentioned on different pages on the UNC site. You will need to check to see which amount is current.

my friend who goes to unc told me that you shoudlnt get the $500 flex w/your meal plan because its way too much. she never even used flex since they accept expense money too, so she just used her expense account. apparently one of her friends had the $500 flex plan and ended up treating everyone to free food

$500 flex doesn't seem like too much to me, especially for the whole year. According to UNC, the 150 meal block plan plus $500 flex is one of the most popular meal plans. I'm going to be using my expense money primarily for laundry, etc. If you eat three meals a day and don't mooch off other people, $500 flex should be about right, lol. ; )

I completely agree cat. I went with 10 meels/wek and 500 flex. :)

So, back to One Cards...what do u use the expense account for?? I'm thinking im only gonna wind up using it for laundry...how much should I put in my expense account then? (current students, parents?)

Thanks, Get. : ) I'm probably just going to end up using my expense money for laundry, too. I put $100 in my expense account... That seemed like a good amount. I can always add more, lol. : -D

I was thinking $100 too...anyone else?
