Flexibility with application deadlines?

We have a cousin who is an international student coming to study in the US on a soccer scholarship. She was scammed (we think) into going to Northwood University in Dallas by a German company that "helps" European athletes attend "top" US colleges. Yeah, they got her into a bunch of bottom-tier trade schools for commuters.

Anyhow, we're hoping she can get out of that cesspool school and attend a REAL college.

My question is this: How much flexibility do you think college coaches have regarding the application deadlines at their private universities? Anyone out there have experience with late applications?

THANKS so much for any help you can give!

College coaches will not have any power over the admissions deadlines, unless the university still has unfilled places for the incoming class.

You might want to first contact the athletic coach, explain the situation, then call admissions to ask if they would consider a late application. There is a term called “summer melt” which describes accepted students who change their minds due to waitlist openings or financial aid constraints. As a result, openings can develop.

Soccer scholarship money may not be available this late, however. Does the cousin already have NCAA eligiblity?

Sorry to hear about the placement scam.
