Our daughter is spending the fall semester in London and we are booking her flights. We live in CT and can easily access both JFK and Newark. Flights are available to Heathrow from British Airways, Continental, Delta, United and Virgin. Aside from fares, does anyone have raves or horror stories about these airlines?

Generally, European airlines are far better than American ones. (Asian beats both). In this case, I’d say Virgin is the best.

But they all throw lots of resources into the London-NY route anyway, so it will be much much better than (nightmarish) internal US flights.

I like Virgin and BA. The problem with BA is that they seem to always be going out on strike or threatening to go on strike.
I have also found good fares for my daughter on STA Travel.

BA are involved in long term industrial action and likely to go on strike at any time. Sometimes they have good deals and they are nice airline to fly with, but if it’s important I wouldn’t risk it.

Peronally, I prefer Continental…usually the accomodations are very good. Oh yeah…and I just returned from heathrow last night…

^ Wow your opinion must be so up to date! Do tell, how was it?

I flew Continental Heathrow - EWR once. Not a patch on Virgin.

i have flown with BA and even the cheap seats were good.
i hear Virgin is good and offer a good service but that’s just what people told me

I have always had very good experiences flying with Delta. I’ve flown to the UK with them about six times now, and I’ve had a good experience every time. Hate flying United, though. Continental is also meant to be good. BA is useless at the moment, with all their strikes.

Thanks for all the feedback. Just booked with Virgin Atlantic, recommended by a domestic Delta pilot, no less. Fares were great-we’ll see about the service!

glad that you got it sorted,
service wise you dont know till your daughter gets on.
